A Soggy Sea Gull For A Soggy Day!

Hello lovely!

It's been a day of weather weirdness today, with the heavens shining forth bright sunshine interrupted by torrential downpours and random bouts of gusting winds. All very haphazard and typical for this part of the world.  The roof's leaking and there's a funky damp smell hovering which is only going to stop when the landlord fixes the dodgy flashing on the chimney stack, and clears the gutters. Aaaaah...welcome the dawn of the British summer!

As there's water, water everywhere it seemed appropriate to mark the day with something appropriately water related - it's tenuous, but work with me here - so today's arty farty episode is a cocky lookin' sea gull, ankle deep in web-soothing sea water:

Fun with layers and some more layers and texture and splooshy stuff (acrylic paints, Neocolor IIs, Derwent Graphik Paint pens, indian ink, Treasure Gold gilding wax, white Uni Ball gel pen and a black Gelato round the edges). I'm adding it as a link to the wonderful 'sea theme' post on the magnificent 'Art Journal Journey' blog - make sure you visit them and browse the work of the talented people who link there, ok?

That's it for today ... just a little 'un. Hope you like Mr S. Gull and his smiley beaky cheeky attitude! Sending out oodles of hugs from Water World! See you soon - Shroo :) xxx

  1. Well it's 3.30 am here in Northampton and I'm suffering with a bout of insomnia ( grr - not had this for ages!) so a bit of blog hopping and good to meet you Mr Gull. My what a fine handsome fellow you are.

Shroo - you're really good! He's such a niftily crafted bird. Really really good.

It's raining again here, beating down on my bedroom roof - and still windy which is going to do for my apple blossom.

And sorry about your leak. Get onto that landlord. Never mind your inconvenience, but his house will rot if he doesn't sort it! Just tell him I said so!

And keep on with the arty goodness.

    1. Oooooooooh yes.....I know the feeling well. Currently 3.52am....*ppfffff*......tum-te-tum-te-tum......
Mr S. Gull thanks you for your compliments. I'm wishing I'd left him his webs. I painted over him because I wanted him to paddle and now I feel he resents it!

Our rainyness has subsided and the incense has masked the funky damp. I'll remind the landlord....it's been 5 months so far so I'm not holding my breath much!! I'll set The Colonel on them...he can sit on them and squash them and cover them with fluff. He is merciless in such matters!

Hoping you get some sleep there - hugs from Shroo:)xxx

    1. I reckon he'd be quite capable of carrying off at the very least a small child, and at best a wiry teenager! Weather's settled a bit today.....probably be a tornado this evening - so next post from Munchkinland!!! There's no place like home, there's no place like home.....

    1. I strongly suspect that the roof will have to collapse before anyone attends to the grotty repairs! Hey...it's their building..... Thank you for lovely commentness! There was a gull on the garden fence today staring at a tree. Didn't move for 15 minutes.... either he was VERY stupid, having an 'episode' OR they're creating robot versions of themselves and we're in for a sea gull armageddon! Sending you hugs and sunshine xxxx

  11. what can I say?? I love gulls, some people regard them as pests, they are often called rats with wings, due to their unpleasant habbit of ripping open bins and bags of rubbish and leaving a trail of litter in their wake. But I totally love them, I love the look of then and the sound of them. What some people consider their nerve splitting screech, I love to hear, its music to my ears, especially if it sores above the sound of the wind and the waves. Ok so by now you get the picture :-) I love gulls, especially this one.

    1. Oh I love them too - they're fabulous! Had one nesting on the roof of my old house once that divebombed me every time I went out - and I STILL love 'em! It's pigeons wot gets called 'rats with wings' hereabouts - a bit unfair, poor things. They can't help being pigeons can they?! Aaawww.... flappy critters. Sending you hugs from pigeon-ville ! xxxx
